Yellow Wrasse Questions

Got this little guy last weekend. He's a pretty cool addition, always picking the rock and sand when he's out. However, he's out every morning until I leave for work, then he's buried under the sand when I get home from work and I don't see him again until the next morning. Is this usual behavior or is he still getting used to his environment? Also, I've read that it should be fed more than once a day but this is kinda hard when I only see him in the morning. Do I really need to feed more than once a day?

Thanks,

it'll take him a while to adapt to his new schedule, timewise. right now, he has his days and nights mixed up. likely in a couple of weeks, he will adjust. mine did the same thing. in fact, when i added him to my dt, he buried himself immediately and over a period of 2 months, i only caught a couple of fleeting glimpses of him. when he finally decided to come out, he stayed out ALL the time. you can set your watch by him. he comes up out of the sand every day at pretty much exactly 11:00 a.m. :)

The yellow coris wrasse I had a few years ago always dove into the sand in the early evening. Even though I knew almost exactly when he was going to do it I rarely actually saw it happen -- like as if he was waiting until I wasn't looking. More often just saw a small cloud above the gravel. As far as feeding, mine lived several years with me feeding once a day at the most, but I had plenty of pods for him to catch.

With your stocking in your signature in a 45 gallon tank you could get two more yellow's and have a harem. Keep them healthy and you can watch them court each other in the evenings and even spawn. Very cool to watch at sunset. Of course you need to wait for the male to become established. Also the male will take on really cool facial colorings.

Heartiest SW fish I've owned. Drained a tank, forgot he was in there and found him the next day when I refilled the tank. Lived under the sand overnight in a drained tank! Amazing! This was decades ago...

Thanks all and noted. He is super cool, really like him. Don't think I'll add another though. Looking at a Citron Clown Goby and a Tailspot Blenny next. Glad I got him though, he seems like a really beneficial addition.

Also what is your light schedule? Mines comes out about 10 minutes after lights comes on and goes in the sand about 10 minutes after my moonlights come on. Very hardy fish.

My citron is by far the fish with the most personality in my tank. He seems to think he's the star of the tank as when your looking in the tank, he will perch himself on the glass in front of you so you can't see anything but him. Great little fish that has a great personality!

My lights come on at 9am, ramp up for 3 hours, stay high for 3, ramp down for 3 and then moonlight till 11pm.

Wow Joshua, that's a beautiful fish, hope mine turns out like that once fully grown.
