In my experience the Yellowtail Damsels are not as aggressive as some of its demoiselle cousins and certainly not as aggressive as some of the larger damsels. However, in a tank as small as 14 gallons finding tankmates may be difficult because they are territorial. How many Yellowtails' do you have? A small dottyback may be a good choice for a tankmate as anything you mix with them in a small tank would have to be able to defend itself.
but in all seriousness, anything that cn hold its own, the aggression will not come out when they(yellowtails) are together, its when you add something that is not a damsel, when they turn mean
I plan to use a single yellowtail for the cycling process, from what I've heard (several sources) a single one doesn't cause much for problems as new fish are added. If you pair them up then you start to see more aggression, and damsels other than yellowtails will show more aggression even with a single fish.
