Got this guy a few days ago, and I think it's a carpet anemone, but I'm not 100% sure......

Thanks for the responses! My substrate is a black sand that is sold at the local LFS.....I bought the crab specifically for the anemone, as my pair of percs already have a home in a RBTA!

It is a carpet with a porclein anemone crab in it.

The term "carpet" doesn't help anyone. If you don't know any more specific information about a specimen posted for ID it would probably be best not to post at all. One of the biggest problems in anemone keeping is that it's hard to find accurate information, and overly general common names don't help to alleviate this. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it's important to get people information that can actually help them.

I'm not 100% sure it is C. Adhaesivum, and it's certainly not Haddoni or Gigantea. I was unable to find anything on WWM that was a closer match than Adhaesivum, but the pictures are awfully small.

It appears to be pretty healthy, though...cool anemone! Keep us posted on how it does!

I definitely agree with Cryptodendrum adhaesivum!! (exhaustively searched the internet on it!) LFS sold it as a carpet anemone, and the guy even told me he thought it might be a ritteri!! (didn't believe that for a minute) anyways, I bought it because it was unique. It is yellow, with a purple underside. Never saw one like this before....I will definitely keep you updated on how it does! It's funny watching the porcelain crab and my emerald crabs show off for each other! They raise their claws at each other like 2 guys on a NY street corner!!!

Hmm, looks closer to Heterodactyla due to the enlarged dendritic tentacles. However, it could be another Thalassianthid anemone, as well.

Well, usually Cryptodendrum does have little branched tentacles, but not as large or well spaced as yours. Heterodactyla usually does, on the other hand. But there are other members in the family (as these two are very closely related anemones), so that may also be a possibility. I would lean more toward Heterodactyla, though.

Hmm, the outer tentacles seem to be the same, too. C. adhaesivum has a different tentacle morph for the outer rim, giving it its other common name. Your new pics pretty much mark off C. adhaesivum.

The more I research it, the more I lean towards Heterodactyla hemprichii---mixed with a haddoni;) whatever it is, it's cool!

Try to get a photo of the column and the verrucae if at all present.

Your newer pics do rule out C. adhaesivum.

Nick

So, is it a Heterodactyla hemprichii, or has the latest pics changed that.......it is probably the most interesting anemone I have seen or owned since I started this hobby, just for the simple fact I cannot immediately identify it!
