yet another clam lighting question...

Hi all,

I currently run 250w XM10ks @10hrs/day on the part of my tank where my maxima clams are and am seeing new shell growth. Would it be worth it, in terms of growth rate and "happiness" of the clams, to upgrade that one section of the tank to a 400w 10K?

Jeff, I think that would make the tank look totally lopsided from a visual standpoint. You also need to consider the impact that nearly doubling the light output would have on the other animals on that side of the tank.

Obviously, the clams are happy and healthy. Were it me, I'd leave it be. Don't rush nature.

That is kind of what I was thinking, Robert. Guess it was more of a "brain fart" than anything, just wanted to see what others thought.
If/when I do change my lighting, I will probably go with one of the LED systems, but not until the prices come down (like with plasma TVs).

will they grow better under 400w lights?

yes and even better under natural sunlight, i think your lighting is sufficient. there will be no harm done by upgrading but it probably isn't necessary.
