Yet another example of why you should be carefull with zoas/palys

Maybe I should start wearing gloves... And I definately won't be boiling any zoa rocks any time soon... :(
 
I think this warning against boiling critters extends to more than zoanthids. It could have been palytoxin, but could have easily been one of many toxins that are in sea critters.

Heck, I remember as a teenager I boiled a few cones that I found in the Red Sea out of their shells. Their toxin can kill a human in less than 10 minutes. Imagine if I got a good whiff of that....
 
They can only fire along their axis (or so I thought at the time).

The worst thing that happened to me, though, was when I picked up a rock to look under it and the "rock" beside it attacked me by bumping my facemask with its head, then running off. By the time my brain kicked in and realized that a stonefish just tried to jab me, I about wet my pants.

Isn't it a wonder we survive our teenage years. :D
