I believe that is a predatory whelk. It will probably eat other snails. Try feeding it a small piece of seafood (meat) and see what happens.

ok ty i will try that. . . soon. . .

EDIT: this just in; a black antenna thingy is poking out of the point
of the shell - all the way to the bottom right of the pic ^^^

Looks like a crown conch, Melongena corona .

I have one and I'm getting rid of it. It has eaten most of the other snails in the tank. I have a rather poor picture of it eating, somewhere around here . . .

thanks mike but unfortunately on closer examination i dont think thats it. my snails points dont curve as much at the tips and it doesnt have as many point on its shell. *sigh* i wish the lady at the fish store was more knowlegdable..........

Yeah ricksreefs is right it is a florida crown conch.I had caught a few for my tank and herd 2 days later their bad so i took them out.If you start to see snails all of a sudden dying find it and take it out.My cousin was also telling me that they lay eggs pretty quick.

Wow, good old florida crown conch. Common hitchiker here that is a PITA!!
I'm surprised they sell them considering their diet. :)
