yet another new tank setup advice thread!

Set up a 10g QT tonight. It's got a small HOB, a heater, an airstone (if needed), and two pieces of 2" PVC.

Planning to order the fist fish in the next day or so. Probably a tail-spot blenny.

... and this morning, I ordered a skimmer, the JNS-WS1, lights (heh! probably important eventually) from BuildMyLED.

Followed quickly by a clean-up crew (one of the small "Caribbean reef diversity" packages) and the tail spot blenny!

Hopefully they arrive safely tommorrow. The blenny's going into QT, and the CUC into the DT.

I'm mildly terrified.

Updated my sump. Got a new 10g and siliconed in some baffles.

Also got the JNS-WS1 skimmer, since it's got such a small footprint. I gave it a night in a diluted vinegar bucket while the silicone baffles cured.

Here's a pic of everything all installed:

The clean-up crew is going along - 4 peppermints, a handful of hermits, another handful of dwarf hermits, and a pile of snails.

Tail spot blenny is in QT; probably going into the main tank this weekend.

Just moved the Tail-spot Blenny from QT to the DT. She's perched on some rocks in the back side of the tank. Almost certainly freaked out from the move, but we'll see what she does tomorrow. Hopefully she settles in well. Much bigger space in the 55 with sand and rocks.

Dropped some pellets and a few flakes in and she seems to be eating fine.

Still hanging out in the back, though, which kind of sucks because we can't see her easily. I'm sure she'll move around more once she's comfortable.

Next up: putting in an order today or tomorrow for 3 x PJ Cardinalfish, a few more nasaarrius snails, 2 x scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp.

I may add a tuxedo urchin, but I'm wary it'll rampage around and knock my rocks over. They're mostly steady, but not epoxied together...

Nice tank.

If you are going to have any gobies or shrimps digging in that sand, isn't recommended to not have the egg crate in the bottom? I am a newb and it is more of a curious question.

I've heard it's better to leave it out if you have a lot of sand-digging creatures, but I wanted it more to keep rocks from sliding around and am ok limiting my stock.

Next livestock order placed! Should arrive Tuesday.

For quarantine:
3 small spotted cardinalfish

Adding the main tank:
2 scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp
2 porcelain crabs
12 nassarius snails
12 empty hermit shells

I'll wait on the urchin for next time. I need to epoxy some rocks together.

Currently in the main tank:
1 tail spot blenny
4 peppermint shrimp
2 emerald crabs
10ish scarlet reef hermits
10ish dwarf blue leg hermits
10ish astrea snails
10ish cerith snails

New arrivals!

Three PJ cardinals, in QT:

Two scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp:

Two porcelain crabs (who've since disappeared into the rocks):

Dropped a few NLS formula 2 pellets in the DT and the cleaner shrimp went BANANAS for them. At one point one of them was holding four at once.

Dropped some dried brine and mysis in the QT for the PJ cardinals, and they seem to be eating well also.

The porcelain crabs are still hiding out - I can barely see one in the rocks, the other's still hiding out.

So everything's going pretty well so far!

The tail spot blenny is still sitting over on her rock on the other side of the tank, not really caring that much.

I drilled two holes in a 10g tank last weekend (I'll get photos soon) and will eventually set it up as a combo refugium and ATO chamber (probably around a 6g/4g split).

Lots of hitchhikers have shown themselves lately!

Some spaghetti worms:

At least one bristle worm:

Different worm, or different location:

Also had a bunch of amphipods suddenly appear on one of the rocks with the (still bleached but getting better) palys:
A short video

And another

And some more

And we have three PJ cardinals in quarantine now, all looking good and eating well.
