This was probably asked bazzilion times before. It is about drilling 55G 4'long tank from Walmart. I am conterplating on should I attempt to drill it or not.
Had anyone tried drilling 55 "wally" tank? I know for sure that bottom is tempered, but I want to get rid of over-the-top overfow and so I need to know if the sides tempered also or not?

P.S. I am not brave enough to find it out the hard way :)

Heck yea, I have this same tank and I drilled it with no problem at all. Went through faster than I thought. Used a spray bottle with water and a hand drill motor. Did not even empty the water from the tank. It is used as a refigium.
Good luck.

Use a wood template if you are using cheap diamond drills. It makes it MUCH CLEANER as it wont be able to jump around at all. Also brace the inside with a clamped piece of wood. That will help prevent chipping when the bit punches through.
