Your Best Guess: Do I have a Mantis or Pistol?

He's pretty freaking reclusive, I have heard a "click" every now and then that sounds like glass cracking but didn't think much of it. Today I saw something going back into the cavity of a rock with deep holes, I only saw the back end but it was red and white striped. It looks like the back end of some sort of shrimp/lobster.

None of my fish have died, including a jawfish with an unraided sand lair

A couple of largerish snails have disapeared but my Porcelain Crab, Emerald Crab and Peppermint Shrimp are unmolested.

i know of a pistol shrimp that is red with ride stripes, but can't think of any mantis shrimps fitting that coloration. but, the easiest way is always a picture. Mantis' you can usually see looking for food at around 5-7ish in the wild. But my guess is that you have a pistol shrimp.

more then likely a pistol, with a mantis you would hear more consistant clicking, and all of the inverts you listed would be gone
