Your expertise for a 90 sps with 9020

I am in the process of rebuilding a tank.

My current tank is a 120 with a 30 sump. It is predominately a softy tank so low organics isnt high priorty (although my nitrates are very low/undetectable). I can tell that my current skimmer an asm g3 probably could be upgraded. Slight, Slight, yellow tinge to water. Everything in it grows well and is happy.

Soon I will be taking the 120 down and building a 90 sps tank. I am not cutting any corners this time and I want to get the best equipment for this tank.

My 90 will include a 50 gallon sump and 40 gallon refugium, and possibly a small frag tank 30 gallons.

What are your recomendations for a setup of this size. I was looking at the 9020. Do you think this will be a significant upgrade to the g3. Will it give me sps water quality. The gph of air for the 9020 looks incredible. I was also looking at the 9420 which seems like overkill -- I could be wrong. Thanks for your input

I use a G1x currently on my 90 gallon SPS dominated tank. It works perfectly. I am getting a 120 in about a month and want to upgrade to a G3. The LFS that I go to here says the G1x will be fine even for a 120 but I am skeptical. If you do upgrade and are selling the G3 I may take that off your hands if you are willing to ship.

To remove the yellowing you really need a low dose of ozone or carbon, the skimmer won't solve that. I think the 9020 will be a modest upgrade but honestly the money may be better spent on a phosban reactor with some carbon or an zone generator. The 9420 would be a big increase but again, won't solve the yellowing problem and it does have an 18" footprint so a wide sump is required.

Definitely spend the $35 to get a phosban reactor with some carbon. Your yellowish water will be gone overnight.
