reef or FOWLR, what does your tank like? i had fish that loved short pulse, but i also had some fish that liked reef crest. i want to add anemones and set it onto short pulse mode

My tank is mostly LPS so I went w/ Lagoon random. Every now & then I'll play with SP and get a little wave going.

Mixed reef, 4 vortechs set up on a gyre.

No anems, but the fish love it and the corals look happy.

my yellow coris loves the pulse mode, but i switch it between pulse and lagoon so he can relax

im thinking of adding another vortech to my 75, still unsure. either that or make a wavebox

I wish I could program it to switch modes on it's own. I like to use the short pulse and reef crest for my anemones and sps but I would like to simulate slack tide with the lagoon mode, a couple times a day for my LPS.

yeah i know what you mean. i find myself switching between modes just to give the animals some variety. i go from pink to yellow mostly. sometimes the short pulse but i find the pink one to be a little better than the blue one

I have a 120G, mostly softies and LPSs, with a Vortech on each side. I have them in master/slave and run it in Random Lagoon mode but I honestly don't understand what the different modes really do. I think I understand the theory but not the application.

So what I think happens with mine is that both pumps do the exact same thing at the same time but oppose each other and in Random Lagoon the highs and lows are not as strong or as fast changing as in Reef Crest mode. What I haven't been able to figure out is how fast or over what time frame are the changes happening.

Maybe I should just try the other modes and play with it a little.

as far as the graph on the "new operational modes" sheet, it looks like Lagoon random is much stronger than Reef Crest, Lagoon Random oly goes as low as 20% of max speed for a short amount of time every half hour, and it stays between 60%-80% for most of the hour cycle....and in Reef Crestevery two mins or so it drops down to 0%...so I think according to that sheet Lagoon random would provide a higher GPH for a longer chunk of the hour cycle...
