I suspect you can get it for less than that price. Moving is not that hard. You will have to save the rock, sand, and at least some water. BUT are you prepared to do water changes, etc? Impulsive buys may save money sort of but have you research the details?

I am not to fond of some of the equipment that it comes with but as a starter set it seems decent. but I agree you can prob. get it cheaper.

also I would not keep the sand. just save a cup or 2 of that sand and toss the rest and use new sand.

go buy a 10 gal. tank at walmart to put the fish and corals into. I can almost guarentee a mini cycle after the move. and also pick up some amaquil+ and keep an eye on ammonia levels in the 10 gal. tank.

for softies, and some LPS yes they will be ok, but may need to change the bulbs right away depending on how long he has had them.

as you stated the rock and tank make it a decent deal. I'm not tring to turn you away from it. but it all depends on what you want from the tank in the end.

You can keep fish and corals in a white polystyrene 5g paint bucket from Lowes, if you can keep water filtered iwth carbon while tank sets up. I agree: toss the sand, or wash it throughly in discard salt water and strain it in your fingers as you transfer.
Not a bad deal, but you'll want a HOB downflow to a sump (about 200.00 if bought) and a skimmer for your sump, another 2-300.00. Knowing you face those extra costs, if you can spring for it, it's not a bad deal. You're just getting into the 90 category, which is a good-sized tank, and would cost you about 4-5000 if you wanted to start from scratch with a predrilled tank, etc, rock, et al.

if i were you i wouldnt buy extra tanks...id buy rubbermaid tubs to keep everything in and to transfer...


but i dont think its a good idea if youre not ready because you could lose almost everything.


500 is not that bad but not that good either.

somoene wants to sell me a 500$ 90 gal setup...but this one has a sump decent skimmer VHO lights and 200 lbs of rock /reef loaded with corals and fish.


this seems a bit poor for 500$
