Your thoughts on leds

i am very happy with my t-5 setup right now but here is my question,to those who switched over to led from your other lighting are u 100% happy with the results as far as growth, health, color on your lps/sps corals if so what advice would u give to someone who is thinking of making the switch.

Go for it! More goods then bad so far! Overall heat and health and grow! Jumping on my fist led as well! And can't wait lol

I made the transition to leds about two years ago when I got rid of all my corals and went all clams. I use cree leds and the clams love it. I can't comment on using leds with corals but I've heard good things.

Just be careful when you make the transition if you decide to. I heard they can bleach corals when you go from T5s to LEDs.
I've heard of people starting at a lower intensity and moving up from there.

I have Radions over my tank and everything looks and grows well. I've seen rather large tanks, (265 and 350) with all DIY leds and growth was tremendous on SPS corals.

I would definitely recommend LEDs. Just as offtrack said, heat is lower as well so that is another plus.

so far they have proven to grow corals and sustain life, and as far as i can see they are here to stay.

ty all for the info, i need to change my bulbs out but thinking of switching to leds,i havent made up my mind but my wife gave me the go ahead since her zoas look better under led than t5 lol

went all LED for a year, rapid cw and rb. Softies, LPS and some SPS did well underLED and looked great. Some acropora like green slimmer, red planet grew very well under the LED. However millepora would not grow much at all, would lay down a good base but not branch upwards.
I did not run "full spectrum" LED
Its been six months since adding two 80w ATI blue plus T5, and just added two more 80w T5 on a std 150g. The Mille are now growing and have gotten more growth in a few months than in a year under LED.

So, NO I was not 100% happy with LED

I am now 100% happy with LED and T5, the LEDS give the shimmer and an extra pop that T5 alone could not produce

My advice would be to keep the T5 and add some blue and royal blue LEDS.

I added some blue led strips to my t5's and I love it. I love the color and growth I get out of the t5 while the glow of the leds is awesome

the problem is i have no space in mycanopy so i was thinking of switching completely that way i have more space. but i love my t5 so much i just cant pull the trigger just yet, just obtaining as much info as i can before the choice is made. i feel like lebron in cleveland should i take my talents to LEDS lmao

Make the switch but borrow a par meter before and after or by the time you notice the damage it will be too late... Go full spectrum....

Very happy with my 2- Ai Sol Blues over my 105g.

and so are my corals

I've had LEd's for about 3 - 4 months now. So far very happy with them. My units have the built in controllers that allow me control over brightness, sunrise, sunset, etc. I love the effects at sunrise and sunset. Just make sure you get ones that have dimming capability. Running them without some means of controlling the intensity will probably lead to bleached out corals. Also get ones that are full spectrum.
