So I placed an order at liveaquaria.com that arrived at my house earlier today (everything survived!!!). The baby hippo tang was hanging out in the back corner next to my long spine urchin... I started to clean the glass with the algae magnets, and I noticed that my urchin had the hippo tang under its body and was eating chuncks out of him! I got the urchin off of the tang in time and the tang is swimming around like it is supposed to... The urchin just took a couple of nibbles... But I never thought that a long spine urchin could trap and eat a fish!

It's discomforting that they shipped the urchin in the same bag as the tang if they will eat smaller fish.

Hopefully he heals up and does fine long term

they shipped them in the same bag? had to be a mistake ,major mixup there for sure .hate to say it but they are human and they really have to hurry each day to get the shipments out on time . wow thats crazy !

It doesn't say anywhere they were shipped in the same bag, it sounds like this happened after the tang wasplaced in the tank and the urchin was already a resident and caught it. I'd watch that tang, depending on how small it is they don't usually do well as babies and extra stress of shipping and then getting chewed on is a lot to take.

yeah, i've had the urchin for like 2 years and it happened in the main tank... (Live aquaria is awesome and would never do such a thing.) The tang wasn't weak or anything, but it would have died if I didn't knock the urchin away with a net. He is still fine and is eating flakes and marine cuisine... Just a couple of scratches/missing chuncks were the urchin hit him. He is going to live and grow big and strong. I'll get him a nelly band-aid to cover up his scars from the hood.
