YSP stinging Candy Cane?

I have a rock of yellow star polyps near my Candy Cane. The Candy Cane is starting to shrink nearest the YSP... Is this a stinging event? I always thought YSP were fairly non-aggressive.

Yes, YSP's will sting corals. Ive had them sting turbinaria.

What exactly is a Yellow Star Polyp. Pachyclavularia or Parazoanthus?

If youre talking about yellow star polyps as something related to GSP and Briareum, then they dont really sting per se, but they are exceptionally toxic, and can damage corals around them (especially stony corals). They are also very capable of just overrunning any coral/object around them and smothering it out of existance.

If you are talking about the yellow "Parazoanthus" polyps, they still dont really sting, but can irritate stony corals if close to them. They dont reproduce nearly as quickly as the one detailed above, but can still cause a problem in the long run.

From my experience with candy canes is they don't really like to be touched by anything. They will grow like crazy but just don't like to be touched. I have one that is multiplying like crazy and has recently touched the glass, the head deflated enough so that it wasn't touching the glass anymore.
