Yukonblizzard's Shark and Ray Reef Lagoon

ALright... after reading this thread, I don't know how many times now, I have a question.

You have inspired me for a DIY project. I want to make a tank out of plywood, and pool liner. Where did you get the pool liner, or where can I get it, and how much does it run? Also, I will have to re look at how you did the acrylic panel, I want to try that. My project will be a lot smaller scale though. I am thinking around a 20" cube with a 10g sump.

No problem, I am happy to help:)

The liner I used is actually a pond liner not a pool liner. Make sure you don't use a pool liner because they usually contain algaecides which can be harmful to fish. I got my liner from a local pond store, but if you can also purchase pond liners online, just due a quick google search for "pond liners" and there will be several sites offering them for sale. I used a 40 mil thick liner, but with such a small tank you may be able to get away with just doing 20 mil.

Viewing Panel:

What I did was I made a frame of 6" wide acrylic strips to create a frame around the viewing panel. I then cut a hole through the liner, placed the viewing panel on the exterior of the liner, then placed the frame on the inside of the tank with liner in between the two, glued, and then bolted to create a water tight seal.

Alright time for some updates...

Sadly the ray did not make it:( He went for 8 weeks with out eating. I tried everything, including stocking the qt with live feeder shrimp, feeder fish, placing small pieces of shrimp, squid, and mussels in the sand bed. I even force fed him after 3 weeks of not eating for about 3 weeks but with no sign of weight gain I quit with the attempts of force feeding.

But on a lighter note I have begun painting the room, and so far I am liking how it is turning out.

I also got a new HD underwater camera so now I can take better quality videos.

Here is a quick video of how it is turning out...
