Yuma Wipe Out

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone around here know something about this problem, but does anyone know much about ricordea yumas picking up a bacterial infection and wiping out entire collections? How infectious this is, how it occurs, etc.. any help would be appreciated! :D

Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure what your asking but I'll give it a shot.

To my knowledge, Corals don't get infections. If they're dying or very unhealthy, they'll start to bleach, split, or in extreme cases melt. Certain non-reef safe hitchhikers may eat or bother the coral. In that case you got an investation of unwanted hitchhikers.

But as far as bacterial infections I personally never heard of a such thing.

corals do in fact get bacterial infections. Its hard to say if it would spread from yuma to yuma, it could go either way

I had a colony of blue yuma start to die off and one after another wiping them all out they would have a brown slime ooze out of them.

I am having a problem with that right now and was just looking for info on it. I have lost several ricordea yuma in that past few months. I had a rock of pink yuma and they all started melting, then a purple melted, then one of my older orange ones went missing and now I am noticing my two other orange yumas are looking scraggly. I am not having any luck with any info on it. I made the mistake of putting the rock of pink yuma's in my tank without quarantining them first and it was downhill after that. So far the ricordea florida I have have not been affected.

Mine are not oozing slime. The pink ones oozed white stuff then got holes in them and turned bright green and then were gone, but my orange ones are just looking like they are burned on the edges or on spots in the body and looking dehydrated.

I had over 140 Yumas in my frag set up, when someone gave me a yuma, from their system. unknown to me they had a wipe out of their yumas and gave me their last one. As a result, their one yuma melted within a week of having it, then in about 4 weeks i lost all but two yumas. they all bleached , or melted to a goo, and these are rics that were healed, and had been sitting in the one spot for up to 6 months. The tank was a 440L trough, about 6 ft long. The rics were spread out, and they didnt need to have contact with a melting ric to start melting themselves.
luckily i kept a few of each colour in my main tank!!!!!!

I found a culprit in my tank with my "dehydrated" yuma's. It is called the sneaky hungry peppermint shrimp disease. I caught him actually pulling the polyps off of my yuma this morning like a crazy man.

This is scary. I love Yumas. Has anyone tried treating with medication?
Curious about what's been tried. Sounds like people just watch them melt.

I would love to hear from someone who has successfully brought a yuma back once it decided to go downhill. I don't think there is much study on them actually.

I am trying to bring back some Florida's from light bleach, so far so good but its going to be a slow process, never had the issue you have with the Yuma as mine have always been fine. But I would definitely find a new home for that shrimp for sure. Once they start they won't stop.

Just like the sexy shrimp love these little guys to death but will not have them again, after making sure they were well fed I found them eating the skirts of my zoas in a past tank I had. Guess the food they were given was not as good as the zoas..:furious:
