YWG and shrimp

I was looking for some advice on keeping a yellow watchman goby pair and a pistol shrimp. My tank is 25g, with two clownfish and a coral banded shrimp (I'll remove him before I add the YWGs and shrimp). It's been established for over 2 years and has about an inch and a half of Carib sea indo pacific black sand (black and white). Would this substrate work? Will I need to add more? What shrimp will best pair up with a pair of YWGs and can all three occupy the same den?

I'm sure I'll have more questions but this is it for now. Thanks in advance!

I would honestly say about 3 inches or more would be required. This would provide the shrimp ample room to dig and create the burrow for itself and the watchman gobies. The best type of shrimp to pair with the yellow watchmans are the tiger pistol shrimp. Make sure you find a mated pair of ywg, its quite rare however.

Its quite amusing to watch the gobies constantly watching the surrounding area while the shrimp works his a$$ off shoveling sand and maintaining the burrow.

OK Thanks, I'll slowly add in some more sand. Is there a way I can encourage where the burrow will be (also to make sure it happens in the front of the tank)?

Although its not a guarantee, you can bury a 3/4 or 1" diameter pipe about several inches in length with the end barely sticking out in the sand. Place the gobies and the shrimp near it and hope that they will go in. But as I said they are choosy over where they plan to dig and set up home.

Thanks, I'm thinking about just a YWG and tiger pistol right now. I have since gotten rid of the coral banded shrimp and added a bangaii cardinal, soon to be 2.
