YWG pairing question

I've done a little searching and research, but have been unable to find the answer. Are they all yellow when juveniles, or is there a distinction between sexes? Are they hermaphrodites like clownfish, and sex is determined as they mature?

No one knows for sure. There are several long threads on RC on the subject in various forums.

Pairing is trial and error, I'm afraid. But at least pairs immediately bond, so you know if you have a match in minutes.

Thank you Nicole, I had noticed in your avatar the different colors and thought that was the indicator, but then I read that color isnt necessarily related to the sex of the individual. So in searching for a pair I should keep my eyes open for two together in the dealers tanks?

I managed to get some here (4) and they are fairly rare in australia, i put 2 together in 2 tanks and they seem to have taken straight off, one of each has changed to white and brown, one is yellow and one isnt sure what its doing.

but seem very easy to pair.

I did try awhile back I bought a pair from an LFS which were hanging out together, but for some reason within a week both went belly up. So now I have a new tank setup for a seagrass/ lagoon biotope and I want to get a goby pair, and a pair of symbiotic pistols.

I have a foursome and I really like it. The pistols I got as a pair from someone, but Peter S recently posted info on sexing the pistols.

I doubt you will be able to find a pair in a LFS. I have occasionally seen them in the process of pairing up in LFS' though. In a community tank, they will often lay across each other in an "x." Or I have had LFS employees point out two that they think have paired up, since they know I have a pair. They get to see the fish together so they have a better idea than you can get on first glance.

They aren't hard to pair, it's just that you may or may not get a pair, and you need to have a separate tank to remove the rejected fish to, if need be.

Would it be best to introduce the shrimp first or the gobies?

Would it be best to try to pair them in QT or wait until they are introduced to the display where conditions may be a little more natural?

I would do it in QT. Much easier to separate them if needed.

What size tank should these guy have for breeding, and how long does it take for them to mature?
