Alright, one of my favorite fish is my yellow watchman. Cool fish, always doing something. Carrying aroung rocks and small cerith, to do whatever he does with them in his little cave. My daughter actually pointed this out to me the other day and I didn't think much about it until tonight. On his right side, right above his fin, there was a little whitish spot/area. Over the last few days it has at lease doubled in size. I have looked on google and other site trying to identify this spot and I cannot locate any good information about this mystery spot. Any ideas? My camera is crap and I cannot get a picture of this, not like he would sit still long enough anyway.

I assume that the spot must have just appeared. I have a Hippo Tang that's been hiding in the rock and he has got a spot on his side. Unless you can ID it, it could be he just damaged himself. My Hippo's spot seems to be clearing up after I moved a few rocks around. Keep us posted.,

I wont be able to have access to a good camera until next weekend. I spent at least a half hour yesterday looking for any type of picture online to refer to, but couldt find anything. I'll be looking again today to see if I can either find name of whats going on, or at lease a picture. The spot did seem to just appear, it was about a week ago though, started out about the sive of a pencil eraser. Time to go try and ID this. Thanks.

Still no camera to post a pic, but I thought I'd give a small update. I have spent a lot of time searching and researching. Still not 100% sure what is going on here, but I am leaning to some type of bacterial infection. The sore has become white, and looks redish and raw in the center of the spot. Like an ucler or something, closest thing I can find to resemble it. Now, medications. I have looked at a few, dont want to use any, but I think I have no choice. I've leaned it to Melafix, or possible LifeGuard. Any recommendations or experience? Should I set up a small QT for him or treat the whole tank?

If you have the ability to treat in qt, then you should. It helps to keep the rest of you reef guests happier. JMO

Best of luck! :)

Well, we'll see what happens. I took an old 3 gallon eclipse out of the crawlspace and cleaned it up and took some sand, rocks and water from my 29, set it up and cross my fingers. Either way I think he was a goner, at least this way he has a chance. Anyone have a pound of sand or so to spare? I'd like to add just a bit more to the 3 gallon.

Jake, keep an eye on the temp and the ammonia in the QT tank, once you put him in there and start treating.

I guess I was a day or two late on getting something going for him. I figured it was probably too late, I lost him two nights ago. I'm not too surprised, he looked really bad. Thinking positive, now I have room for a new fish, what to get...
