zebra eel...

I just have some general questions about zebra eels...

1. How much do they eat? (per feeding)
2. How "fat" (big around) do they get?
3. what can be fed to them?
4. Will other fish harrass them? If so what types of fish?

Thanks, for the help :spin1:

i got a 3' zebra eel that eats 3-4 51-60 per pound shrimp per feeding every 4 days or so. he is about as big around as 1.5" pvc. might be easier to list what you want to keep with the eel to see if its compatible instead of listing everything that could potentially bother the eel.

well i was thinking of keeping it with these;

Russel's Lion
Marine Betta
Male BlueJaw Trigger (btw, they're safe with lions)
Blue Tang
Yellow Tang

But I'm willing to pass on the tangs for the eel tho...

The biggest one I have ever seen was four feet. I've read that they can get 5-6 ft, just what I read. Mine was 3-3.5ft and maybe 2" thick when I sold it.It was in a tank with a regal tang, the eel seemed oblivious to the fact there were fish in the tank. Mine would only eat frozen krill and the occasional scallop.

I don't see a problem with your list other than the bluejaw may(you could get a crazy one) bother the lion.

I recently added a 3.5ft Zebra to my tank and the only fish that bothered it was a Passer angel, it wouldn't leave it alone for three days. It has settled down now thankfully. The Passer would chase smaller fish away from the Eel then have a little nip at the Eel so maybe this was a sign of the angel protecting the smaller fish???

My 3/4 inch Clown trigger swims right up to the Eels face and just hovers there looking at him....brave or stupid, the jury is still out :lolspin:

Mine is about 3.5 it normally just eats silversides and shrimp. Never bothered any of its tank mates.

Go with a zebra eel ^^ They are sooo cute! The only problem you might have is fish bitting your eels tail or stealing food right out of your eels mouth (even though they maybe the biggest thing in the tank they won't fight back). They are very gentle so I would suggest putting them in first. The tangs and lionfish will completely ignore your eel. The only one you might have to watch out for is the trigger.

I am glade you have chosen to get a zebra eel ^^ once you get it send me pics!!

I've had mine for a long time - I don't remember exactly how long, but well over ten years, and it's not more than 3.5 ft. It eats about like iLLwiLL's, occasionally goes on hunger strikes of a few weeks. Never any health problems, and it never bothered any fish, even when I kept it with smaller fish like royal gramma and clowns. They are shy and hide a lot. I call mine Mr. Magoo because he is not a very aggressive feeder and can't seem to find food until it's right in his face.

My Brazilian dragon moray is out a lot more. It also outeats the zebra 5 to 1, even though it is shorter (but at least twice as thick).

I have been saying I was going to move it for at least two years now. But it's still in the 220 with the zebra and three angelfish - emperor, blue face and blue spotted. It hasn't caused any trouble since it tried to eat my very rare color morph dogface puffer a couple years ago. I still have the puffer - in another tank. I keep it well fed. The angels slap it with their tails if it gets too close, and it always backs off. I wouldn't risk adding another fish, though.
