Anyone using this method and if so, what are your thoughts on it. Ive been reading a lot on it but still can't decide if its really worth it. Sounds like a lot of commitment on dosing and feeding.

I'm going to hijack this because it is a similar question and I have been reading a lot about carbon dosing. How do you know if you should start implementing in my case probably vinegar. I am still battling with cyano and I know that vodka especially can cause a cyano bloom. The reason I ask is the tank is about 4 months old now and I have been doing the same water change schedule since after the cycle(pretty large water changes) like I said earlier I take everything out of the sump and rinse it out. The rubble gets swished in the water coming out. The rest of the sump gets rinsed with ro waste water and then the inside wiped with towel to get all the slime out. I like my sump clean. For the past 3 1/2 months after a water change nitrates are almost undectable. Yesterday day I changed out 28 or so out of 67 gallons it was split up Tuesday night (siphoned sand bed) and Wednesday morning did the sump. After that tested nitrates and I was at about 5ppm. Before the water change I was up to 10ppm so the water change did drop them by half like it was supposed too. So as the tank matures more do I need to start thinking about carbon dosing. Even though I am still fighting the cyano with the increased flow, lowering phosphates and weekly dosing of microbacter7. I have read about vodka and microbacter7 combo. I know that 5ppm Is still pretty low but say next month before water change I'm at 20 and change less for whatever reason then my baseline nitrates are higher.

I'd figure out the cause. What's your p04 at?

.08 today after a significant water change

I don't know what you're feeding or how much but it sounds like you have a nutrient problem on your hands a little bit. If you don't find the cause it's a compounding issue. I'm guessing it's just that your tank isn't very mature/ feeding a bit to much.

I feed once a day usually the docs eco eggs. Turn all pumps off let the fish eat then turn pumps on stir any left overs up then turn pumps off again then skimmer and return back on. Every 3 days or so I feed either the enriched brine w/ spirullina or the mysis. About half a cube. Some go to the fish some go to the lps. I usually feed reef roofs 1-2 times per week.

Wow. I'd cut everything in half or you could be heading for trouble. That's just me personally but I'm to a point where I can look at my corals day to day and tell if I need to feed more based on the way they look. I feed a ton but you have to work up to it so that you know your tank can process it. Can you put macro algae in your sump?

The only way to do it is in a reactor like u did. I have also been thinking about those ATS kits I know corner reef has them. I have seen videos diy for cheap but would feel better buying one but $$$$. Or carbon dosing

80 bucks for my extra one.

I use my return pump but if not I'd use atleast a maxi jet 600 but I'd go with a 900 if you're buying them.
