Zero edge system OK for a coldwater reef? Couple of other coldwater questions..

I was just wondering about the viability of using a zero edge tank as a coldwater system. One of the problems for a coldwater reef is condensation on the glass/acrylic which wouldn't be a factor in a zeroedge. Slap on a big chiller and skimmer, use a 1" thick acrylic sump, add a couple of t-5s and you're in business.

Anyone see a problem with this? What should the flow rate be like in a nearshore coldwater reef? Is coldwater macro OK for nutrient export in the fuge?

Thanks,
Mike

The zero edge takes on room temp real quick. So yuor going to need alot of chiller. With slow flow it may be even worse.

Don, thanks for the response. Do you own a zero edge? If so, what do you think of it? A guy in another forum brought up the fact that the tank water would constantly be exposed to the ambient air causing it to warm up. The chiller would likely be working overtime. That's about the only problem I see with the setup.

Any thermodynamics whizzes know whether or not this whole idea is feasible?

Mine is diy but works exactly the same way. You will need a bigger chiller something that can work overtime. The surface compared to water volume is huge. Ive never tried to keep anything that cold but I think the zeroedge is going to be tough.

Don, what have you got in your tank? I really like the zero edge concept, and may still try to give the coldwater a shot. If not, I could always use it for something else. Your woodworking looks amazing BTW.

Water, sand and rocks:) I wont have fish in it for another month or so. Not sure I like the flow yet so need to give it time to make up my mind. It will be sps and clams when all said and done.
