Zero nitrates okay for clams?

I tested my water today and finally achieve my goal of zero nitrates after 1y and 6m. Do clams neccessary need some nitrates to survive? Just wondering.

Even if the test kit says "zero", your aquarium has much more dissolved inorganic nitrogen than clams in nature...
