Zoa and Ric problems!

Some colony of zoas and rics won't open up all the way or not open at all. Water params are good. Other corals look healthy and happy. It just a certain colony. I'd tried moving them around in the tank, thinking it had to do with lighting and flow. Nothing! Moved to another tank, thinking that would help. Nothing.

I was told to dip them in a 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide and 1 part water. To rid of any diseases. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
J

What would cause Rics to fade away. Once had a whole colony and slowly they got smaller and smaller till they faded away. I heard you could feed Rics. I never tried. I thought the light would be enough for them. I had about $120 bucks worth of Rics that are no more and no sign of any..:(

Do your Zoa's have white spots on them like this?

If so then you have the Zoa Pox which will wipe out all the Zoas in your tank. It happened to my tank last year. You can treat the Zoas in a dip with Furan 2. Just google "Zoa Pox" and you should get a recipe for erradicating the disease.

Do not dip them in Hydrogen Peroxide. Thats not going to kill the disease.

No! No visible spots or parasites that i can see. I did reef dip them a few times. Thinking it was parasites...

As far as the zoas go just go through the list one by one and eliminate the ones that are oobviously not the problem. Then go through the others on the list. A pic would help as well. They maybe totaly different problems.

Agreed! I will post a pic tonight when I get home.

I was recommended 1 part peroxide to 9 parts SW - be careful. I didn't have the opportunity to try it though (white fungus), as the colony had melted off its frag disc. Luckily a small clump survived and is now doing great re-glued to the same disc haha!

If they are slowly fading away and shrinking it seems to be a tank condition to me. Maybe too little light or something along those lines. POst pictures of issue, tank set up, and water parameters-not just there fine.

I'd like to believe it was lighting or tank conditons. Yet, all other corals are healthy. I since have moved them to another tank and almost an week later, the same thing.

I've read that zoas and ricordias can be hard to keep together because of their different needs.

My understanding is that ricordias prefer less light and less flow, and zoas prefer more light and flow. Maybe what I read was incorrect, but.....

Yes! Depending on what zoa. They have different needs. I tried moving them around to different areas in the tank. Areas with low light, low flow. Or High light, high flow. Different mixes and nothing.
