Zoa die off?

Why would Zoas die, and green star polyps thrive...? The zoas seem to me melting, but the stars are spreading and, mat as well as polyp length.

Just because they can!

Just because they can!

I know this may not be popular to say, but sometimes zoanthids and palys just melt and die even in the best of hand and for NO apparent reason.
The lists of pests and diseases available on RC and a few other sites are excellent, but often none of them are to blame. Then there is always the question of a change in flow, temp, pH, Mg, etc, but once again, often none of that is to blame. I have seen half colonies melt while the other half thrives and I have seen 2 or 3 polyps close up forever, after being in a tank and doing well for a long time, all for no apparent reason.
The one thing I must add, is although this has happened to me too, it is always a very small number of zoanthids or palys. I mean if I have 60 or so different types, usually only 1 or at most 2 will go bad, while the rest look great and it does not happen often.
When zoanthids/palys grow well they are some of the easiest things to grown in your tank, but when they act out, they are more difficult than any SPS I have ever owned!
So pics help as does listing your water parameters, but it may well be that nobody can find a reason!
