Good Day Everybody,
I have a large zoa colony with multiple "colors" of zoas intermixed on a particular live rock. (Colors = Species?)
The current colors are as follows:
Bright Green & Yellow (GY)
Dull Green & Purple (GP)
Red & Purple (RP)
Orange & Dull Green (OG)
The problem that I have noticed over the past few days was my RP Zoa's started to shrivel up and melt. The RP Zoa's are actually pretty scattered throughout the rock with some heads being more than 2 inches away from the main cluster. However, only the RP Zoa's have been shriveling up as of late and all the other ones are fully opened and happy.
I have noticed small branches of red wire algae starting to grow in between some of the GP heads but those heads are always open and sway around.
I did however, notice a giant dark purple "pimple" that has been growing near the RP zoa cluster. Is it possible that the giant pimple is sucking all the resources from that particular Zoa?
Does anyone know what that growth is? Theres two of them in the photograph with one being noticeably larger than the other and a shrinking/dying zoa next to it. That area used to be abundent with zoa's till that thing came along
I haven't noticed any nudi's, spiders or zoas with missing skirts in the colony so I don't think it's being eaten. My peppermint shrimps do pick at the stuff between the heads every now and then which cause them to close up. But otherwise the shrimps don't bother them.
The only other thing that I have noticed out of the ordinary was that recently my GY Zoa's have developed white spotted coloring on the face of the fully opened heads. However, after some research, it seems that its actually a good sign and that that particular zoa is going through a morph
So my question is; what could possibly be killing a particular zoa? I've had them for 3 weeks now and it only started to happen recently and to the RP zoas only. Should I inspect the "pimple" thing?
Is it possible that they're not taking in enough nutrients? Everything else in the tank is happy
