I have noticed something growing through and around zoas on one of my rocks. Can you help me Id and suggest how to handle.

It's the purple stuff in upper center of picture

Looks like clove polyps to me. I've never had any but have read that they spread quickly and aren't easy to get rid of once you have them. If possible, I'd suggest isolating that rock to keep them from spreading to others. Hopefully someone else can tell you what they've done to get rid of them.

Yep. Looks like clove polyps to me. The Herpes of the reef world. Personally I'd take a chisel to the rock and get rid of the section that has them on it. I hate the things, they are very difficult to kill once established, and quickly grow over any and everything

I agree also. Looks like clove polyps, and it looks like they are winning the battle for space. Did you purchase the rock with those zoas on it already or did you place them yourself?

Zoa help

The zoas have been there on that rock with no issues for 9+ months. We upgraded from 55 to 90 gallon tank and had bought one rock with the BTA on it. I didn't see anything else on the rock. The BTA has split twice in last 2 months and now moved to this cap rock where the zoas are located. I guess maybe the new rock must have had some on it we couldn't see and it just climbed onto cap rock.

I was planning on cutting rock with a large margin to stop the growth.

Is there anything I can do to save the zoas that will be on the cut piece with the clove polyup? Can the clove polyup be scraped off?

I actually drilled a hole in the cap rock and placed the frag of about 6 polyps of the zoa there. I have not fragged it since it was frag was placed there
