Zoa newbie questions

Hi,
I'm in the planning process of doing my first ever salt water build and will be going with a coralife biocube 29. Im reading and learning as much as I can before I start since I'm new to it all. I want to add a zoa or two. Will zoas spread like wild fire and take over a tank? If they do grow and spread pretty quickly can u try to isolate them and slow that down by placing them on the sand bed? Also any suggestions on hardier/easier zoas is appreciated along with any other knowledge. Thank you

Growth rate I'm pretty sure depends on the species. I never used to be able to keep zoanthis but I just recently set up my tank after a couple months of it being down and now zoas are doing great in my tank. So far they haven't grown much in my tank but my tank is only 2 months old. I'm also pretty sure most won't grow over the sand bed but I think some might. But otherwise some kinds do grow like wildfire and others don't. My lfs has a lot of polyp frags and I am trying to do a zoa garden and they told me that some grow faster than other and to place them accordingly cuz If you have one really nice and slow growing frag next to one that grows quickly your patch of the really nice ones will only be a tiny patch. Zoas and palys also have toxins in the so be carefull if you frag them

Awesome thank you. Ik my lfs doesn't carry a huge variety of corals and Wat not. I have been looking on the net to but wat would be some good sites to order zoas and other corals from?

Tidal gardens is my lfs they are pretty good but some of their stuff is a little over prices and they ship as well. I got a lot of my polyps from rare reef but they don't have items always up for sale. Their last sale was on valentines day but idk how often they do those. Tidal gardens also does a live sale every once in a while and they have some really good deals in those. You have to watch the video to find out what each item is though if you do end up participating in the live sale.

I checked out tidal gardens and they do have quite the selection but yes like u said they do seem to be a little more expensive compared to other places i have been finding

Yeah tidal gardens has some stuff over prices but they are really good and they have some good deals if you look. I've been in the store in person and they are really trustworthy. The blastos aren't too expensive and if you wait for the live sale you can get some really good deals but people buy the nice things really quick and just adding them to the cart doesn't reserve them for you so you can add something to the cart and when you go to check out I could be gone

Collecting zoas is a bad idea. You will be addicted to get them all. LOL
But anyways, the nice colorful, expensive ones are slow growers, that's why they are expensive. The faster growing ones are your common Eagle Eyes and Nuclear Greens found at your local LFS. I've had them grow on sand and live rock as well.

Enjoy the hobby. :)
