I notice my zoas the past 2 days have been shrinking. Some of the zoas are flip inside out a little. The top of the 2 heads were cover with some red slime barely noticeable. What is wrong?
That is also called "umbrella syndrome".
I wonder what causes that.
To this date I still don't have an answer for the phenomena.
See any predators? Try to check at night with a flashlight.
Here are some points to think about:
1. Light/water flow related.
Most of the time that happens when there is a lack of flow and poor light.
2. Also could be changes in the water chemistry and temperature (too warm or too cold).
3. Perhaps a virus or other unknown internal pathogen.
4. Activated carbon and too much partial water changes using synthetic salt.
5. Not enough stimulation of the internal muscles. Target feeding particle food could help.
I would love to learn more about that one.
Try to check out your water parameters and the light/flow first.
i had some clones in my tank doing the exact same thing. late one night with the flashlight i saw astrena stars attacking that colony and one that was completely healthy. i put a harlequin in the tank and my zoas have never looked better
