Zoa Q's

I've got the stock lighting on my 29g. biocube and about a 7-8 days ago added my first little "colony" of zoas... just simple little green mouth area with yellow skirts. Has about 14-15 full heads a 3-4 baby heads growing.

I've got two questions:

1. On my biocube, with the stock lighting, would zoa's in general do better in the higher reaches of the tank or could I put them on lower rocks?

2. For the first 24 hours that I had my zoas, they stayed closed a lot (probably pretty typical), but now those little suckers are open all day AND night (except when a hermit decides to crawl across them). Is that normal for them to be open all the time?

Also, if it matters, they don't appear to be stretching toward the lights (yet, anyway).

Thanks :)

Stock nanos are just fine for zoas. Generally when zoas are moved it takes some time for them to open up as they acclimate to your system. Sounds like everything is going just fine. I have zoas on my sandbed do just fine in my 12g JBJ.

Oh good! I just wanted to make sure they were getting enough light even if I put them a little lower on the LR.

Thanks for the advice. :)

+1 to the above statements.

Also, when getting new zoas and palys it is always good to start them off at the bottom then work your way up the tank. You would not really want to place them too high at first because they can actually get shocked (especially if moving from pcs to MH). Placement at the bottom at first will allow them to become accustomed to your light which will be fine for zoas. Afterwards you can move them up your tank and see how they like it.
