Zoa Question. Open/closed.

I just put my first Zao in my tank. When i first put it in it was closed. After 30 min's it started opening up. After 3 hrs it was fully open. Later when i turned of the lights and just had the moonlights on i noticed some of them closed up. Is this normal? Do they only open up when lights are on? Are they supposed to open and close all the time?

Its perfectly normal and nothing to worry about . Many zoas and many species of photosynthetic corals close up when the lights are turned off and will expand when the lights are turned on.

They may also close up if something in your tank bumps them, you bump the tank or make it vibrate in any way. Some are more fussy than others The more colorful, the more sensitive. I've got some ugly green/brown ones you could drop a rock on and they won't close. I've got some peach ones that if you sneeze near the tank they won't open for an hour.
