Zoa question.

I have 8 different Zoa's in my tank, and in last 3-4 days there has been only 1 type that is vanishing. My Eagle Eyes are about gone. All other types are fine. It first looked like 4 heads had turned white and were closed then they were melted and gone. Should I do a dip, and if so what type of dip?

Only my Eagle eyes have vanished. They were the oldest in the tank, around 2 months. My pH at last test was near 7.9-8.0 range ( Best my eye could judge ), Nitrates, Nitrites, and Ammonia all 0. I use LED's, have 2 TrueLumen 48 inch sticks over tank.

I ordered some Coral RX, will be here Wednesday. My Zoa's are my first corals, so I am the newbie for sure.

I found my Camel shrimp were doing that 2 weeks ago so they are gone. I am sitting up as we speak watching again.

Well, Coral RX came in the mail today. I did my first dip just a little bit ago and loads of pods came out as expected, as well as 3 worms. The worms were on the frag that my Eagle Eyes were on so I bet they were the culprits. Phew, Coral RX to the rescue I hope. I will post further updates.

p.s. Just a side note, one of my hermit crabs spawned last night while I was watching my Zoa's. Dozens of Larvae, my fish had a field day eating.

Haven't noticed any further loss since my Coral Rx dip. I do believe I had some pesky critters.

Todays tests:

Mg 1260-1280 range
Alk 2.5 ( This is low on normal range, should I adjust? )
Ca 430
Temp 84 ( runs this during day and drops to 80 at night )
Salinity 1.025
Nitrates 0
Ph 8.0

Any further hints/advice?

yes alk is way low, should be at minimum 7

I run alk around 8-10 also your tank runs pretty hot....

I run mine around 78-80, @ 81 lights turn off, @ 82 most turn off except one pump for circulation.

Worms were probably devouring the left over or dying Z's.

I did a recheck on my Alk card. It is 2.5 Meq/L or dKH of 7.0, so that seems ok. I am going to have to play with my Temp some, I figured it was a hair hot.

Well, no more Zoa loss noted since my Coral Rx dip. On the frag that had 20+ polyps on it, I have 3 or 4 left and they are opening today. Thank you for the advice and tip of Coral Rx.

+1, I think worms were likely just cleaning up die off. Tank deff running to hot. It could be the lights causing some dying. I've had zoas just turn & die for unknown reasons. Even when a colony is broken into 2 pieces & seperated, they can still melt away.
