Zoa splitting

Thanks for the link whoda. I definately have one that's splitting. Do you know how long it takes for one to split? Mine started about a month ago. It has two mouths and a distinct line across it , but it is still round across the top.

no i do not. :(

and in fact - if you would be so kind as to consider taking shots every few days of the event, that would be really nifty!

i'd love to add something like that to the ZoaID.com site! :D

if not - i understand. but to my knowledge, it's something that has not been photoed from start to finish. it could be another month, could be 6 months, or perhaps they never fully split?

if you're interested and need photo tips, just lmk! :)

you said it started about a month ago - do you see patterns as if it might eventually split? or do you see patterns as if it might remain a single zoa w/ two mouths?

I think it's going to split as I can see a line forming across it. One of my snails just walked across them so they are closed right now. I'll try to get you pics, but be warned I have an old camera.

There are at least two polyps of these blue paly's that have a double head, with two mouths, but I don't think they are splitting, just a mutant.

I'll try to take pictures, but it looks like it's very happy being 2-mouth polyp ;-)

i have one splitting now. i couldnt believe it. its like another tiny mouth on there and it is getting bigger everyday. looks kinda like how lps splits.

! monthinto the split. Atr least I think it's going to split. It's not noticable in the pic, but there is a distinct line across the center which I think is where it will split.

i can just copy this one, and ty! i'll add it to the site now. if the splitting is really slow, maybe a follow up in a couple weeks or a month? :D

if it starts accelerating, more frequent shots would be nifty.

thank you very much!

cool!

cool!

Wow just when I thought I had seen it all! Cool shots and discussion. If any one else out there has any of these "double mouths" I would love to see pics, and also for those who have posted shots, keep us updated regarding whether the polyps "split" or not...

cheers

j.

p.s. back online, was away for a month on zoanthid work!!

Twon8 those palys look really sweet . I have tons of Zoas and Palys and have yet to see them split like that . Really great pics guys .

there are two polyps which are splitting like that, and I know one of them has been like that for at least six months, maybe longer.
