zoanthid list.

Hey could anyone add to this list of zoanthids that costs anywhere from $25-$150 per polyp. I am creating a small business for a senior project in high school. So I thought why not make a small coral business.

If you want some more details/information on the project feel free to send me a message or comment in the thread!

Here is what I have on the list so far

Bowser
Shazam
King Midas
TDF Lemon N Lime
Purple Hornets
WOW Palys
Blue Rhinos
Rastas
Red Hornets
Blue Hornets
Yodas
My Clementines
Pink Elephants
Candy Apple Reds
Utter Chaos
Ktar Black Hornets

Thanks,
KennyG

What is your means of distribution? Selling from home, storefont, online or combination. Price will vary and especially by geographically location.

I would start by compiling a list of pricing on major coral shops, local LFS, Craigslist, reef club, and every forum that has region thread. The larger the database and crossover of names the better.

I would then create an appropriate questionnaire and survey using that data to drive your pricing. If you had a Zoa priced equally from a LFS, club member, Craigslist or online, where would you by. Then use different pricing in the questions, the responses will then factor into your formula.

Or you can just undercut the local price and go from there.

I would focus on zoas that are not in great supply for the region. Locally I would say jf bloodshots may be the top 5 hardest to find Zoa. Take that name and find the region with an over abundance of that Zoa, lets say Dallas Texas as an example. There will be a great difference in price between both areas. Maybe do the project with that narrower scope.

Your method of asking what the prices should be versus getting the actual number may flaw your project.

Just my thoughts. Hope that helps.

Have fun and get an A.

Not exactly. I am asking for names of zoas in that price range.

Didnt read in detail. But if you are asking for zoas in that price range then it's hard to answer. It goes back to that widely used saying. The price is based upon any price a buyer is willing to pay.

What if I said, I would not buy any Zoa in the above list if it was more than 20 per polyp?

Then I would say could I interest you in any of the hornets, rastas, or ext. My plan is to under price anyone. Since I will be doing this from home I have no rent or electricity bill "thanks mom". My cost per month is only $22 that accounts for chemicals and water changes.

Confused. Are you trying to setup a home business and actually grow and sell Zoas? Or this is for "fake" class project/business

I'm confused also, do you have all of those listed? If so I'd like to see the Bowser and Shazam next to one another.

For others not listed.

Hallucination
G hornets
Jawbreakers
Paradise zoas
Candy apple pinks (true)
Seducations PE
Blue agaves
PPRPE
Blaine Perun TRUE PPE

Thats all I can think of on top of my head for now

I have most of these but if I get grant money for the project I will be purchasing the bowsers, shazams, and the ktar black hornets. I already have everything else.

Sorry for any confusion. I will post something to clarify this tomorrow. Sorry I really didn't explain this at all.

Hi every one,

sorry for any past confusion I realized I just kinda posted a list with names without explaining anything at all.So here we go.

At my High school they require any senior who is not taking AP English or AP Gov/Econ to do a senior project. Many of these projects are simply jobs that kids through together in a week before their presentation and the projects do not benefit anyone in the community. The main goal of the project is to have an effect on someone or a group of people in our community. However I am not like most people at my school so I wanted a challenge. I decided to create my own small business growing and selling corals. My goal is to be able to sell high valued corals at a lower price so everyone can enjoy the more collectible coral.

This is going to be an actual business that will turn out profit(hopefully). I will be selling out of the home and online. I will be able to ship anywhere in the lower 48 if the buyer wants to pay for shipping.

The list of zoanthids was confusing on itself. Those were names of zoanthids that I planned to sell.

This list is Zoanthids I already have or am getting within the next two weeks or so.

King Midas
TDF Lemon N Lime
Purple Hornets
WOW Palys
Rastas
Red Hornets
Blue Hornets
Yodas
My Clementines
Pink Elephants
Candy Apple Reds
Utter Chaos

Here is a list of Zoanthids that I plan to purchase in order to grow out.
Shazams
Bowsers
Ktar Black Hornets
Blue Rhinos
Hallucinations
Blue Agaves
PZ 5 color rainbow
JF Blood Shots

So what I was trying to ask is if anyone had suggestions to what other zoanthids I should grow out in my business that people are looking for. Basically I am asking the members on this forum what zoanthids are you looking for and I will try and get to sell to you!

Also if someone has anything on my want list please let me know and I will get in contact with you to purchase some.

Thanks,
Kenny G

Any more questions feel free to ask. I tried my best to clarify the horrific first post.

So who is your target market? The WCR members? Or all of bay area reefers?

Are you planning to grow them out? Or to act as a middleman to find and resell to buyers?

Some Zoas are expensive because they do not grow well unless under specific water conditions or feeding regimen.

I would be concerned you may kill some Zoas and have to re-buy more. Many Zoas are sensitive.

Colin, our local zoa lover/collector/lover occasionally kills some of his prized Zoas also. ;)

You can add Space monsters, White velvets and Tubbs Blues. Thats all I can think of at the moment. Colin should probably be the one to check your list.

My aim is to sell to anyone in the area first but then I am willing to ship. I am trying to grow out the coral. My goal would not be accomplishable if I was a middleman. Being a middleman would cause me to have higher prices then I want. Also what zoas are sensitive? Could you point them out if there are any in my lists.

Hey Kenny,

Looks like you have some nice zoas on your list! The ones on your list that are well known melters are the JF bloodshot, Hallucination, Blue Agave, and Utter Chaos. I'm still trying to find a bloodshot, so if you find one let me know. Some zoas I can think of that you might want to get to grow out are:

Super Saiyan*
Red Jawbreaker*
Yellow Jawbreaker
JF Crazy lady
Electric Oompa Lumpa*
Goblins fire*
Spacemonster*
CG full Spectrum
PZ Promethian*
G hornet*
Darth Maul*
Nightmare
Ultimate Chaos
Eye of Sauron*
Pink Hallucination*
BBEB*
Mary Jane
Pink Hippo*
VDM*
DBZ*
Rainbow rasta
Seduction PE*
Tiger lilly
Mandarin Orange*
True Armageddon
Paradise*
Blue Rhino*
5-Color Rainbow*
Salted Agave
Green Dream Grandis paly*
Eye of Sauron*
Spiderman*
Fruit Loop*
Dark Phoenix PE
Alien Acne*
Red Halo
Rainbow Maul

Get ready to spend some serious cash though if your trying to pic up a lot of these high end one. They can be really expensive;)

When i had my tank running and money i was really trying to get some Darth Vader zoas but the place that was selling them always sold out very fast.

Your project sounds great. Although, there are a lot of people that do what you are trying to do. For your project I would suggest to try to do something that stands out or find a niche market.

With that said, I'd be interested in an Utter Chaos frag, if that will help you.

As Cody says, lots of local "growers" in the greater bay area. And some that simply put a fancy name and hype it up to sell it.

Also, lots of
1) reselling and price arbitrage.
2) buy a bunch from someone cheap
3) get a zoa and color it up under LEDs or other controlled spectrums.
4) collude with other sellers to keep prices artificially high
5) limit inventory to keep prices/demand high

Lots of microeconomics involved. :)
