zoanthid problem

Hey guys. I just picked this colony from pet warehouse the other day. I thought it was a great deal for 40$ (100-150 heads) There seems to be some kind of film covering them. It almost looks like a sponge? I dont know if it is a fungus or what. I tried to remove some film by hand but i had no idea how delicate these things were. Any ideas?
Also, i dont know what kind of zoas these are, seems to be a few kinds. If anyone can identify, please let me know.

It may very well be a film on them. Zoas are temperamental and it may take a few days for them to adjust to there new environment. They well be ok!:bum:

Frank is right about the zoos. Some of them can be funny at times. I bought some of the blue ones from klaus a few months ago, and it took them more than 3 weeks to open.

Also if it is a sponge, it can choke them out.

yea i figured it might take them a while to open, the reason i find it strange is that the ones that wont open are covered, look brown

My big green palys do that from time to time. It is like they shed, and then come back bigger and more colorful.

I have used a soft bristle tooth brush to help with this. Only use this method if they do not open after several days. Sounds crazy but I use this method with both my zoos and my green stars polyps from time to time. Just do it gently and this will for sure help.

You can try to do a coral dip or iodine dip. A simple dip wipes out the bad bugs you dont want in your tank, and can grealty improve the health of the coral. You can also put some Vit C in your tank until they start to look a bit better too. Sounds crazy but works.
You might just have a mucus coat on the polyps from the coral itself. If its not a an area with good flow in your tank, it can smother itself. Was it like this in PHW display tank? If it was its possible it had algae growing over it, or something in there tank bothering it.
I would take a brush and wipe from the bottom of the stalk up to get whatevers on them off, and put them in front of a good flow to keep them clean. You can also take a magnifying glass and get a close up to see if there is anything living among them that keeps irratating them.

Ok so today i did a freshwater iodine dip and pulled all the bad heads off. I tried to get a discount on the iodine at PW since they gave me the bad colony but no luck :( I hope it works out. If you get any Zoas from the pet warehouse coral tank i definitely recommend dipping them before adding to your tank.

I wouldve steered away from a freshwater dip. More harm than good most of the time. Did you make sure the PH was up to altleast 8.0?
