Last week, I was prepared to start a thread about a 'bed' of Zoos (10" x 10") that had started to receed and thin out dramatically. The polyps had shrunken to a smaller size and appeared nonexistent on the outskirts of the mat. I didn't post because life got in the way, but as of yesterday, I noticed that the mat of zoos had essentially recovered. The polyps are not as long as previously (appear to be closer to the rock), but there is no exposed mat.
What happened? Any thoughts?
Some recent tank history... I have been dosing vodka for about a year, nitrates had returned to zero, but I had become lax in my dosing regimen, which allowed the nitrates to increase to about 10-15. I have returned to dosing, but at a low amount in order to slowly increase as before. I also noticed that my urchin died, so it could have been an ammonia spike. I only noticed the dead urchin yesterday, it is down in a low exposure area, so I don't know how long ago it died.
