I had placed my 4" Derasa next to a 3" Maxi about 2 months ago, and now it looks like their shells have begun to fuse together, and the byssal(sp?) threads are tightly intertwined.
To make matters worse, I recently added a 6" green Capnella to the back, upper corner of my 90g under indirect 400w. I think the lighting change has caused it to start dropping branches. Two of 10 them landed amongst the rubble surrounding the clams, and are now securely attached to the Derasa's shell.
There are also some zoanthids quickly covering the opposite side of the Derasa's shell, nearest to the Maxima.
I have seen that all of the corals that have touched the clam have not caused any stinging from either party, but I am worried about the zos constantly touching the mantle(s) as the grow to the edge. Will this cause any harm?
I need to remove the Capnella too, before it begins to shade the clams. Can I just slice it off w/o it regenerating again? Will it kill the Cap.?
BTW, the Maxi is deeply enbedded in the sand and won't budge, along with the attached Derasa that is nearer to the surface of the sand.
These are my first two clams, I've had the Max for 8 months and the Derasa for about 5. They are well, and are growing quickly.
Any tips, past experience are appreciated.
