Zoas and nitrates

I know zoas aperently like a bit of a dirty tank...higher nitrate levels...how high are we talking

I have a small 7.5gal cube that I plan to have a zoa garden in. I have it running on a 20gal sump I wonder do I have to run a skimmer or can I run a filter sock and some live rock for filtration maybe a sock of carbon. Would that be adequate and wouldn't alow the nitrates to get TO high but keep the water little higher

Or run all that but a skimmer aswell

I dunno I do sps no zoas.... I'm learning on all fronts to

you might can get away with it, but I wouldn't let your nirates get over 10ppm. I would have a skimmer on standby, maybe run it for a few days and off a few days and see how your parameters do and adjust from there.

I keep zoas in a 28 gallon nano cube and nitrates are less than 0.2 ppm. I do not use a skimmer and the only have live rock, and Chemipure Elite, Purigen and carbon for filtration. Mechanical filtration is provided by polyester fiber that is replaced every 3 days. I do feed the zoas 2 to 3 times a week.

Perfect that's kinda what awnser I was looking for :)

I mean if all ealse fails I just do alot of water changes until I get a skimmer lol
