i have a 6 bulb t-5 setup with icecap reflectors over my 75 and am having issues with my zoas and palys. the bulbs aren't overdriven. anyone else out there running just t-5's having any problems? my lights are about 8 inches off the water. sps and lps are good, but zoas and palys just close up for the most part except for when the lights first come on. should i raise my lights some? right now i have 2 actinic, 3 blue+ and 1 aquablue bulb. just tested the water and everything looks good. TIA.

It could be related to something else, but I ran all UVL bulbs (overdriven w/IceCap) and had this same problem. I switched to all geissman bulbs, which was better for the zoas, but the bulb color was awful after 2 months (no blue). Now I'm using ATI Blue +, and ATI ProColor with good results.

Heres mine, 8x54watts ( 432watts ) 6 diffrent colors used for lighting ( 420s,460s,3500K reds, 6000Ks and a couple other colors? ) but plans to add Fiji Purples and coral day lights. Its lighting a 100 gallon tank. You can look at the gallery for more pics, pics were taken with a crap point and shoot. I wish I had a SLR to take these pics. Pics aren't as updated, as I gotten rid of a bunch of zoos and palys that I don't have planned going my 37cube.

i have a T-5 tek light(4bulb) and havent had any problems with them in my 75. these are the bulbs im using (2)ATI Blue Plus, UVL 75/25,UVL Aquasun. colors are great but dont know on growth as i just changed to these bulbs this week.

Just wondering if you acclimated them zoa's/palys' properly when they first got into the tank. Meaning, starting them all the way in the bottom then gradually moving the up as the get acclimated overtime.

flow is good. i have a nanostream 6045, stream 6000 and maxijet mod 1200 along with the return and a closed loop. water is as follows:

alk - 11
Ca - 450
ph - 8.1-8.3
Mg - 1300

looks good there for parameters. Maybe they're just tempermental polyps , just need enough time to get happy in your tank. LOL
