Zoas and salt

can changing salt affect zoas? I was using IO for my all softie tank but my calcium was always at 360 and my zoas were doing great. I decided to change to reef crystals because I wanted to add a few lps. my calcium went to 410 but my zoas are now closed except for a few polyps. been this way for over a month. guy at my lfs said he had the same problem. he put all his zoas in one tank with IO and no more problems. anyone have this happen? I'm about to give up on zoas.

Interesting.

I am told they like Higher Alkalinity but have never heard anything about Calcium.

You will get much Higher Alkalinity with Reef Crystals than you will with Instant Ocean as well as Much Higher Magnesium.

Also, temperature is considered very important to prevent Zoa POX.

My Zoanthids always perk up after I use Alkalinity or PH Buffer.

Also, dosing the tank with Chemi-Clean is said to have have Huge Effect in getting Zoanthids to Open Up.

One person told me he does it every few months and he doesn't even get slime algae.

I don't dose with anything which is the reason I have mostly softies. it's only two rocks and if they don't make it it's no big deal. I got them cheap and my leathers are more important to me.

You slowly integrated the new salt right, not all the sudden on next WC use the new salt and discontinue old one?
