zoas as a substrate on a barebottom?

does anyone have any pictures of this? My tank is currently barebottom but i was thinking of a zoa or gsp carpet....any thoughts? pictures?

That is a really cool idea! I'm thinking of slowly removing the crushed coral in my tank and using zoas. Although, a GSP carpet could look amazing with a good amount of flow.

I think a GSP would look amazing too. I wanted to do GSP for my background. I decided not to though because of all the people who tell me that the GSP overran their tank. If you let it grow on the bottom you would have a tough time from keeping it out everywhere else.

I wouldn't do it....

because that is what would happen

Zoas or rics would be a better option since they are easier to scrape off of the glass if needed

well, for argument sake, its only a 20g tank, there is a pile of rock in the middle on which the anemone will be....its not hard to scrape off of the glass and with the anemone i'm assuming it won't be able to encroach on the rocks too much....the contrast of the green with the rose would be kinda neat

You want your reef aquarium to look like your front lawn ? lolol

Seriously, are you laughing at his idea of creating a unique system which would stand out among thousands? If he is successuful, and the rest of his tank begins to flourish, he would most likely be considered for TOTM. That would indeed be and honor.

To the OP, I'd say go for it my friend, I don't think it would look anything like a front lawn, more like a colorful flower bed that many will rush to duplicate I think.

Good luck.

+1 on this idea. I admire reefers who think outside the box and who are daring. Be different from everyone else and be creative :)

I've contemplated this before...I just lack the space for another tank. I wish I had a good place to set up my 2.5g. It would be a good option for an easy little project. I say go for it!
