The dreaded white fungus. My belief is the polyps were growing on a sponge or something and as it dies it infects the colony. Best bet is to frag off the good parts and dip it every other day to try and clean off the decaying matter.

Thanks for the info. I don't know much about fragging. Can I just cut away the dead parts and dip the rest? What do I dip with?

For that colony, I would frag the good parts like the above said with a pair of bone cutters. You can always epoxy say 5 or 6 good pieces back onto one rock.

As for what to dip them in, I would go with an iodine based dip. Like Lugol's or Seachem Reef Dip, something similar to those.

Just where gloves and eye protection.

Thanks for the warning! So bone cutter? Does that mean I should not detach it from the rock, brake the rock it's attached to and epoxy it somewhere else

Had an awesome collection of zoas all on one large rock in the center of my tank, one black sponge is all it took to start slowly killing them, no matter how many I fragged I couldnt kill the sponge and it was over. About $800 worth of a rock down the drain. It will make you sick
