i have a colony of pink zoas (or they may be palys) neways since yesterday the colony has all closed up and stayed closed. I have other zoas in the tank and nearby that are completely open, but this colony seems to be all closed up. should i be worried? I have other zoas close by but they have been placed together like that for about 4 months now and have been perfectly fine. i hdont want to start loosing all of my colonies. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

Were they QTed or Dipped before adding? Do you have a sixline wrasse that may eat nudies off it? and maybe check for spiders if none are there then I would dip for a fungal infection? UNless a fish keeps rubbing them I had My Black saddle kill part of a colony cause he would bump it every few min?

no sixline, nothing i can see that is wrong with the zoas other than they are all closed tight. i have only two false percs and they dont come near it at all. they have been in my tank for a while now so i dont think it is something that came with it. i havent added anything to my tank in a long time ( 2 months). i dont see any fungal infection and i dont know if i can dip because they might be attached to the adjoinging live rock.

something is having a taste it sounds like to me, check with a flashlight at night for amphipods if your sure there are no nudis.

It could very well be nothing at all. Zoanthids and Palythoas are tempermental and often they are simply closed because they just don't want to open. On any given day I will find at least one colony in my collection that isn't fully open or open at all. A single colony that is closed doesn't always mean there is a predator, fish or invert that's munching, it's typical behavior. Often they will close for a few days to sometimes a week, during which they will clean themselves externally. Again, common/typical behavior.

I would do an early morning inspection before sun up with a flashlight. Also take note of any physical changes to the colony, pinching, flaking, discoloration, wilting, tearing etc.

What else do you have in your tank livestock wise?
