Zoas looked stretched

I bought a colony of zoas from the lfs, but the polyps looked stretched. I have another colony that is growing but the polyps are very close to the rock they are on and they dont really have a "trunk" for lack of a better word. On the other hand, the second colony has a 1 inch "trunk" or so. Are they in need of more light or something?

some protopalythoas have a taller, more defined "stalk" than other true zoas but if they look floppy and stretched out it usually is a sign they could benefit from more light. Just give them some time in your tank and they will probably tighten up if your others look good.

You'll find Zoanthid in a wide variety of lenghts and diameters. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them if you do indeed notice this variation.
