I have a pretty big mixed colony that i got a couple months ago from my LFS, there's some Green Bay Packers, some watermelons, and some eagle eyes. I haven't had any problems with it until yesterday... For some reason, the entire back section of zoas won't open?! The entire from is, but the back isn't....any ideas? i did a water change last night, salinity is 1.025, calcium is 450 ph is 8.2 nitrates are under 5.... any ideas on what to do??

did you dip the thing when you bought it? can you rule out parasites like zoa eating nudi? I'm fighting a nudi war right now. My entire colony would close up in 1 day.

or is the back side in the shade? Zoa loves light. If you see the stall growing longer, it probably needs more light.

and make sure decent flow around the entire colony. they don't mind flow but hates algae/cyano/crap covering them

did you match temperature when you WC? I'd wait a day and see how it goes since you did the WC yesterday. and monitor for parasites at midnight

Yeah i dipped, i can rule out a nudi, and it just happened yesterday, well before the water change. Its not in any shade and it's getting good flow! Used a turkey baster to try and get any detritus or sand off of them about 2 hours ago but still nothing! There are a couple that are open, and some are half open... just not sure what it could be... and yes, temps matched when doing water change

does your parameters swing? And what's your alkalinity? Zoas need stable Alk. Keep it at around 9-10 and don't let it swing.

has it been growing the past few months? if you have good enough lighting + flow, it should be growing new heads. a good sized colony of those zoas will start doubling in a month. my eagle eyes and packers grow like weeds..

also. did you check for zoa pox? I've also seen big amphipods eating zoas..

maybe some pictures can help.

Is something coming out of your rock and irritating them? I've had pods and Bristleworms both irritate Zoas by their coming and going activity around the colony.
Try moving your colony.

also any new fish? tangs, rabbitfish, etc? sometimes they will start munching on your polyps one at a time.. by the entire you notice, it's too late. colony gone

The tank is fishless, i'll try moving the colony to see if it does any better, but what i dont understand is why i'm not getting the growth you're describin-g... -Yeah there is some new heads, started with maybe and now ive got between 85-110 but its been over 2 months... i'm using led's so i'm not sure if that could be it... i'll post pics as soon as i can
