Zoas partially open

Hey fellow reefers,

I got 5 new zoa frags 1 week ago. They were open and looking great 24 hours after placing at bottom of my tank. Yesterday I noticed that one of the frags had mostly closed polyps. 3 of them were 1/4 open. The other frags look great. Parameters are within normal limits. I has dipped the new frags with revive prior to transferring to my tank. Attached are some photos. My plan is to just watch for now vs dipping in revive again in case I'm dealing with any type of parasite. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. Matt

I'd leave them alone for a whole. Still fairly new to your tank I'd let them adjust assuming your water is good of course.

Hopefully..basically on the bottom of my tank and my Leds are turned down to 30% output. They were open and looking fine for 3-4 days before partially closing. I will continue to monitor things. I noticed that at night with lights off whereas all the other zoas and plays fully close this effected frags polyps are partially held open. Not sure if this means anything.

they're still adjusting to your lighting. I'll put them more on the outskirts off your lights range then slowly put them more under the light as time goes on.

i have the same problem...it was open the first few days....now its halfway open =( already tried putting it in the shade and dipping them.

I'm probably not going to dip in revive again as the frag plug is glued down and I don't want to induce more stress. I am constantly stating at it looking for suspicious nudies or snails but don't see any. Will still give it more time and keep fingers crossed.

keep parameter stable, no tank inhabitants bothering them, no predators, if dipped previously don't anymore as this will further stress them out. Leave them be to see if they pull thru, also ensure proper light acclimation.

From my experience with zoa/palys they may be in and out for a couple weeks when you first get them. I find the fastest way for them to recover is to really just leave them alone if all your parameters are good.

Really appreciate all the advice! One of the polyps was open tonight so maybe they are heading in the right direction. I'll post a pic in the next few days.

Unfortunately I found what appears to be ZOA pox on a neighboring colony. These polyps are progressively closing. The original frag is looking no better and although I don't see obvious pox lesions on it I have to assume the two are related. The other 6 ZOA frags appear normal so far. My plan is to do furan dips as soon as I can get my hands on some. Has anyone had experience dealing with ZOA pox? Any pointers? Thanks again!!

I have dealt with it on multiple occasions. If it is zoa pox, furan 2 should do the trick. Just remember you may have to dip them a few times over a few weeks. Just like how you take antibiotics and so forth till the very end of your prescription.
