I recently purchased several frags of zoas from e-bay. I realize zoas and other corals look different in other tanks based on lighting and parameters. I have seen leathers be totally different!
The Emerald Green, Pink Buttons, Fire-n-Ice and Celtic green frags arrived exactly as pictured. They are very nice and I am pleased with the color. On the other hand I did not receive any blue or even blue tones.
I ordered: ***"You are bidding on a beautiful Baby Blue w/ Lime Green skirt and center Zoanthid Frag, consisting of 45+ polyps"baby blue "
*** beautiful Deep purple w/ orange skirt AND Pink Ring of Fires combo frag, consisting of 35+ polyps
***Purple Lavender w/ Lime Green skirt and center Zoanthid Frag, consisting of 75+ polyps
The seller gave me some ideas ..
" the variance in color has to do with the lighting. Bulb age, temp rating, intensity, and position in the tank will all effect color. Also viewing from the top down in the tank will show its actual color. Side viewing tends to make corals appear green. Stress from shipping has been known to actually discolor and fade corals, give them a few weeks. Hope this helps a little. Also know that metalhalides have a pulsating effect that cannot be seen with the human eye, under a camcorder or digital camera it shows. At the peak pulse the coral will appear most blue under a picture. This may explain the difference as well."
The corals have been in my tank for 3 weeks. All the zoas are healthy and I can see them plumping up. I have greens, pinks, and a few yellow...no blue, lavender, or purple. It makes me think they were not blue to begin with since the other corals arrived with the color were WYSIWYG! Any thoughts?
