Zoas turning gray, and look like they are dieing

I noticed some of my Zoas not looking happy one day. Then within 2 days they started turning gray, and seem to be dieing. I checked my water parameters, all are fine. I am cleaning them off with a turkey baster, but otherwise have no clue.

We need numbers and pictures. When you say parameters are fine well what is "fine?" In situations like this the more info and pics you can give out the better.

Pictures please"¦
Please post all the number for the water parameters:
Alk, Mg, Ca, PO4, NO3, etc"¦
Is that a new addition? Did you dip?
Tell us about your system, please"¦

That's probably bacterial infection.
If it's smelling rotten please cut the gray part and discard.
Dip the rest in Lugol's soution:

8-10 oz. of tank water, 3-5 drops of Lugol's solution for 5 minutes.

Rinse the polyps off in another bowl with tank water before return it to the system.
Watch for 24 ours and repeat the dipping if the infection progress until t's healed, cutting the rotten away and dipping.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

I took out the obviously dead stuff.
I did dip before I put them in the tank. I looked for bad guys.
I think I might be able to save some, but I think most are toast. My fish, and invertebrates are fine.
I'm think an all fish tank might be in my future.

That was probably bacterial infection..
You just can't see the "bad guys" with the naked eyes in that case, 'cause they're bacteria.
Don't give it up.
That normally happens to the best people anyway.
Unfortunately that's a great part of the zoa keeping!!

Leave them alone for now and just watch.
The new picture doesn't show signs of rotten spots, I would say.
They'll come back from that. Just let them rest and keep params stable.
Try to bring Mg gradually to ~1.350.

There is a lot to it, besides light and water parameters.
Make sure you system is stable and have no predators.
Search the forum to learn more about zoas…
Good luck!

I've had this tank for 6 years. I've only had trouble with it 2 other times. I've had saltwater tanks for 20 years, and have never had trouble like this. The fish I have are at least 4years old. I'll keep trying. Sometimes patience is the best treatment!

How long did you have the zoas though?
What kinda trouble did you have before with the zoas?
Do you have any other zoas in the system?
What lights do you have now?
Water changes?
Skimmer?
GFO? GAC? Any reactor?
etc...

Sorry for jumping in here but I have a similar looking problem with one of my Zoa colonies (started a couple of days ago). The colony is now fairly close to a Frogspawn that has actually expanded loads since I first got it (I thought I had left loads of room).

Could the Zoa's be getting bothered by the FS? I can't move the FS but I can move the Zoa's.

Thanks,

Andy

Yes, move the zoas and see what happens.

I have LEDS 60,000K whites, and 20, 000 blue. I have them programmed so they are all on only when it would be noon. Right now except for the fish, it all looks dead. I had a diatom bloom a few years back, but that was an easy fix. I've put new zoos from the same seller 2months ago. Oh well, fish tank it is. Mt invertebrates are fine. Shrimp, crabs, feather duster. Sigh here's a pic of what it did look like.

My fish are fine. I've started putting in some artificial coral. I'm suprised by how good it looks! Not as nice as the real thing though.

Plus I live in the frozen North, out in a rural area. I have to order all my livestock in, so no more trying live coral for a while.
