Zoas Will Not Open Please Help

I recently bought some Eagle Eye Zoas. The first day they were in my tank they acted fine. All polyps opened with ease. Today (The second day they are in my tank) Only 2 or so polyps opened up. I have other zoas in my tank that are doing just fine. Ive never had any of my zoas go into shock before. Im wondering if that is what is happening. I havent tried a fresh water dip yet because if there was a zoa eating pest in my tank, then my other zoos would'nt be open either. If the coral has been "shocked" is there anyway to fix it? BTW my bulbs are brand new T5s im wondering if i should place the coral higher up. thanks!

Looks like they are looking to melt on you.

Those two open ones will reproduce quickly for you, so do.t worry about the other 5 so much. If you have any revive coral dip, give that a try.

If you suspect light shock then moving them higher will only cause further issues.

Do you know the lighting from the tank they were in? Type and age of bulbs, how close they were to the light source etc.

New bulbs, differences in water parameters, moving to a new tank and zoas being zoas can all lead to they being closed.

If the ones that are open continue to stay open then it could be a good bet that it is light related. You could move the frag to another part of the sand bed like at the edge or near some rock work to block some of the light.

If they open up after a few days leave them alone and then move them back and introduce more light.

Im with KafudaFish. Im a little careless with my zoas, and frequently cause light shock from moving them around. Mine just eventually reopen and are back in business. If they ever stop doing that, I will then become more cautious

I have no knowledge of the prior lighting system theese guys were in. I bought this frag over the internet. The coral frag itself must have been in the dark for around 40hrs during shipping. Lets just hope they eventually open up

If they are melting they need to be dipped ASAP!
About 3-5 drops of Lugol's solution in a 8 -10 oz of tank water for about 3 min. should do it.
When they are already melting means the infection is already taking place.
Some times, depending how far it is, there is nothing you can do.
It's typical to happen like that. Polyps are open on the first day and on the second day they are almost gone already, even if you dipped them prior putting in the system. Shock/stress could be part of it, yes. Who knows!! Very sad.

go in at night and take a look for predators ,more so the zoanthid eating nudibranch's, or first thing in the morning take a turkey baster and touch each polyp with the baster, if theres nudis or any other pest they will be there.....suck any ones you find out immediately and then go onto treatments, if you find some.

zoos melt for aot of reasons so some pics and more info on your system would help for sure



dips in coral rx can get you some temp relief but you would still need to address the overall problem.
